Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using pure extracts derived from plants, flowers, woods, resins and leaves for therapeutic use. These extracts are called Essential Oils and each work naturally with the body system to restore harmony and balance, creating wellness on a truly holistic (whole person) level.

Each essential oil holds different properties, but work on both the physical (body), mind and emotions of the person using them.

Aromatherapy incorporates the principles of massage, hydro-therapy (water therapy), beauty therapy and inhalation therapy as a means of delivering essential oils to our body's so they can set about their powerful, yet subtle and unique healing capabilities. These therapies provide ways for the body to absorb the essential oil molecules into our body where their own unique intelligence finds them their way to each specific bodily system that they naturally take healing effect upon.

Essential Oils are readily inhaled or absorbed through our skin, and only small amounts of essential oils are required to bring about a therapeutic effect. In other words, less is more. When the originating plant life passes through the process of distillation or extraction to produce essential oils, the potency of these living extracts becomes greatly intensified. It can take hundreds of kilograms of plant material just to extract a litre of essential oil.

Essential oils have been likened to hormones, in the fact that in plant life these substances are responsible for the harmonious physical and whole plant growth and function. Some of their functions in the plants life are to manufacture and maintain substances that sustain life, produce food, assist reproduction, provide protection from disease, harsh weather conditions and predatory life forms. Their multi-faceted approach gives scope to a wide range of uses in Holistic Health Care and general wellbeing.
